On Sunday afternoon, the University of Dallas women's soccer team (3-9-1) was defeated by DePauw University, 2-4.
Though it was a lopsided affair shot wise -- UD: 5, DePauw: 43 -- freshman Crusader goalkeeper Brigid Hasson (Fairfax, VA/Trinity at Meadowview) was able to keep Dallas within striking distance. Hasson had 12 saves.
Freshman forward Claire Sexton (Salem, Va/Salem H.S.) was a spark-plug offensively for UD, recording the team's two goals on the day. The first came at the 42-minute mark when she hustled and won the ball from the DePauw goalkeeper before netting the hard-earned goal.
In the 50th minute, DePauw's Julia Drummond recaptured her team's two goal lead when she booted one past Hasson.
Sexton was able to swing momentum back into UD's favor for the time being with a 67th minute goal, which made the score 2-3, DePauw.
The Crusaders were not to mount a comeback on this day, however, as DePauw's Angela Cotherman put the game on ice, with a goal in the 86th minute.
UD will next play on Saturday, Oct. 23, when they take on Austin College in a home game at 12:00 p.m.
