FORT WORTH, Texas – The University of Dallas men's golf team is hosting and competing at the SCAC Preview this week, held at Hawks Creek Golf Club, posting a combined team score of +29 in the opening round on the par-72, 6,898-yard course. Day one came to a close a little after noon at Hawks Creek.
Leading the Crusaders was Mike Zhang, who continued his strong fall play with a steady 1-over 73, highlighted by consistent ball striking and a composed back nine. Iain Griggs followed with a 4-over 76, carding an even-par back nine to stay within the top half of the field.
Zachary Vickers turned in an 80 (+8), while Ethan Hoang finished close behind at 81 (+9). Matthew Duphorn rounded out the scoring for Dallas with an 83 (+11), helping the Crusaders close at +29 overall.
The Dallas "B" team was also represented in the field, led by Thomas Oubre, who fired a solid 74 (+2) to pace the group. Benji Cronenwett added a 78 (+6), followed by Daniel Casas (80, +8), Antonio Alvarez (85, +13), and Wayne Poon (87, +15) to round out the Crusader contingent.
Day one gave UDallas a strong opportunity to gauge its progress against conference peers. Round 2 play will resume in the morning.
