SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Dallas men's tennis team wrapped up its fall season at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships this past weekend, closing out the tournament with a series of gritty performances led by senior Shu-Lun "George" Chang and sophomore Cayven Yi.
In his final collegiate appearance, Chang capped off an impressive UD career by advancing to the Round of 16 in A Draw singles—marking his third trip to the round of 16 in as many years. His consistency and leadership once again set the tone for the Crusaders throughout the event.
In doubles, Chang teamed up with Yi, where the duo opened play with a competitive effort against Trinity's top-line doubles team, battling closely in the early stages before ultimately falling 3–8.
Yi also put together a standout showing in C Draw singles, overcoming both tough opponents from Texas Lutheran and Concordia (TX) as well as an illness that lingered through much of the weekend. His resilience carried him all the way to the semifinals, where his run concluded against St. Thomas (TX).
Head Coach Jacob Delao praised his team's determination and leadership throughout the tournament, saying, "The Crusaders fought hard! I'm especially proud of George and Cayven—George for his outstanding leadership and defining what it means to be a Crusader throughout his three years here, and Cayven for his resolve over a long four-day tournament. It's now on us to do the right things headed into the offseason, and we look forward to welcoming back a few Romers in the spring!"
The Crusaders will now turn their attention to offseason preparation before returning to competition this spring, building on the strong leadership and growth shown in their fall campaign.
