IRVING, Texas – The holiday season once again highlighted the strength of community, compassion, and service within the University of Dallas Athletics Department as student-athletes partnered with the Irving Police and Fire Departments for the annual Blue Christmas initiative. Rooted in generosity and guided by UD's core values, this year's collaboration continued a cherished tradition of giving back to families in need across Irving.
Throughout early December, student-athletes from every program united with a shared purpose: to bring warmth, hope, and joy to local households during the holidays. Collection efforts spanned practices, meetings, and home events as players, coaches, and fans contributed food, toys, and household essentials. What began as individual acts of kindness grew into a campus-wide demonstration of gratitude and a reminder of the difference a committed community can make.
Blue Christmas, a beloved Irving tradition since 1979, now supports more than 400 families each year through the combined efforts of volunteers and first responders. By partnering with the initiative, UD student-athletes not only provided tangible help but also embraced a mission that aligns with the values of faith, service, and solidarity that shape the university's identity.
The delivery day brought the spirit of the season to life as athletes from multiple teams gathered to hand off the donations. Laughter, teamwork, and a shared sense of pride filled the moment, showing that generosity is most powerful when experienced together. For many participants, the opportunity to serve alongside teammates offered a meaningful reminder of the impact that comes from stepping beyond the court or field and into the community.
"This is what being a Crusader is all about," said one student-athlete. "Coming together, supporting others, and using our blessings to lift up those around us."
As the holiday season continues, the University of Dallas is grateful for every student, coach, and community member who contributed to this year's effort. Together, they helped extend the magic of Blue Christmas to families across Irving, showing that when generosity meets community, something truly special happens.
