The Crusaders Reach New Heights in Houston

IRVING, Texas -- The Crusaders took to Houston to open their first meet of the Indoor Season. Records were set and expectations were met by multiple Crusaders to start the season.

The energy was electric as the indoor track and field season kicked off. Fueled by months of relentless preparation, they shattered records and set new benchmarks that rippled through the competition. Each athlete carried the weight of their teammates' aspirations, turning individual victories into collective triumphs. This season promises to be one for the history books.

Coach Nick had this to say about the teams performance, "It is becoming a new trend for teams to have full indoor seasons to be competitive for the outdoor season. I'm glad we were able to at least have one indoor meet and see several of our conference foes there and most of the track teams in Texas from NCAA D1 to NAIA. I am so proud of both of our teams. Yes we are young and small, but they were determined to compete. Both have been working hard and it paid off. Alex stuck with the plan we gave him which broke the mile record while the girls, after running a hard DMR, still wanted to do the 4x4 since they wanted to set a record. The men and women showed resiliency and poise. We were able to figure many things out to prepare them for outdoor."

The Dallas men's track team delivered a series of noteworthy performances. William Moran competed in the 400 meters, finishing in 1:09.83. Alexander Bozhilov led the way with an impressive 4:19.78, securing 3rd place overall and breaking the UDallas Mile Record. Brennan McNamara followed with a time of 4:50.37, while Martin Lane completed the mile in 6:19.18. The men's distance medley relay team, featuring Lane, McNamara, Moran, and Bozhilov, clocked a competitive time of 12:32.40, finishing in 8th place. These performances underscore the team's depth and potential for future success.

The Dallas women's track team showcased determination across multiple events. In the 400 meters, Maya Prochnow recorded a time of 1:07.98, placing 44th. In the mile, Allison Leonesio led the team with a strong 6:02.73 finish, followed by Abigail Piotrowski at 6:38.67 and Therese Portilla at 6:43.43. The women's 4x400 relay team, composed of Prochnow, Piotrowski, Portilla, and Leonesio, clocked a time of 5:04.95, earning a 14th-place finish. These performances reflect the team's promising efforts and growing competitive edge. This marks Dallas Women's historic first 4x4 time recorded in their 50 plus year history.

That adds up to a total of 15 records being set under Coach Nick's tenure

Looking ahead, Alexander Bozhilov will be the sole representative competing at Texas Tech in the 5,000 meters, a key event that complements his specialty in the 10,000 meters — truly his bread and butter. His performance at this meet will not only be a testament to his dedication but also set the tone for the team's continued growth and competitive edge moving forward. The Texas Tech meet next weekend presents a crucial opportunity to build momentum for the entire squad.
