ISABELLE CHEVALIER OF UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a sophomore on the women's basketball from Mandeville, La., has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the week beginning February 23.
The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.
Isabelle Chevalier has established herself as a decisive scorer and trusted decision-maker for the University of Dallas women's basketball team. With the ball in her hands, she brings confidence and composure - attacking when the moment calls for it and creating opportunities when defenses collapse. Her ability to read the game, make smart choices under pressure, and deliver in key stretches makes her a constant threat and a steady presence for the Crusaders.
But Chevalier's impact extends far beyond the scoreboard.
Away from the court, she leads with the same intentionality through her advocacy for pediatric cancer patients. Isabelle dedicates her time to tutoring children who are unable to attend school in-person due to cancer or other life-threatening medical conditions. Through free weekly 1-on-1 virtual tutoring sessions, she provides not only academic guidance but also encouragement and stability during an incredibly challenging chapter in these children's lives.
Motivated to expand that mission, Chevalier is launching a Pediatric Health Partnership (PHP) chapter at the University of Dallas. The initiative will mobilize students to serve as volunteer tutors, creating a network of support that ensures pediatric patients continue learning, growing, and feeling connected, no matter their circumstances.
Whether she's knocking down a key shot or answering a late-night tutoring call, Chevalier leads with purpose. Her game-changing ability on the court mirrors her mission off it and stepping up in critical moments and making a difference when it matters most.
The program - Pediatric Health Partnership (PHP) - provides:
Compassionate Care - Tutors understand the unique challenges young pediatric patients face and offer patient, uplifting support tailored to each child's needs.
Academic Excellence - High-quality tutoring across all K-12 subjects helps students stay on track academically despite time away from the classroom.
Global Reach - Virtual sessions via Zoom or FaceTime connect students worldwide with dedicated volunteer tutors.
Volunteers apply by sharing their academic strengths and motivation to serve, are paired with a student in need, and commit to providing flexible, compassionate tutoring designed around the child's circumstances.
