Crusaders Fall 5-1 to Texas Lutheran in Quarterfinal Round of SCAC Tournament

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The No. 5 seed University of Dallas men's soccer team fell in the quarterfinals of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) tournament 5-1 to the No. 4 seed Texas Lutheran University. The Crusaders (8-8, 7-6 SCAC) took an early 1-0 lead in the 3rd minute as Eric Haigh (Frisco, Texas) crossed a nice ball and found Tomas DePetris (Houston, Texas) who beat the keeper right.

TLU then (10-7, 9-6 SCAC) scored five unanswered points, as UD gave up its most goals on the season.

DePetris scored his second goal on the season with just three minutes in for a quick lead. TLU then went on a scoring frenzy as they scored four goals in ten minutes. Luis Green scored the equalizer in the 18th minute with a roller that beat the defense and the keeper. The Bulldogs then found their first lead of the match when Nicolas Medina beat the Dallas keeper when a solid strike. Green scored his second goal on the day and his 18th goal on the season when he found the upper right corner of the net after he cut back into the box and took a long strike. Cameron Townes scored in the 28th minute, unassisted to put TLU up 4-1 at half. TLU outshot Dallas 8-7 in the first half.

Dallas won the shot total in the second half 8-6, but were unable to break through.

Townes scored his second goal on the day in the 65th minute to put TLU up 5-1. Brendan Soto made five saves, allowing one goal for the Bulldogs. Tanner Horelica came into the game in the final 13:54 minutes for TLU.

Sean Carlin (Puyallup, Wash.) made three saves, allowing five TLU goals. Jacob Chimento (St. Louis, Mo.) played the final 18:16 for the Crusaders in goal.  

Texas Lutheran will move on to face the No. 1 seed Trinity University on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Dallas has concluded its 2018 season.
