IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's soccer team fell 2-1 versus McMurry University on Saturday in the final match of the 2017 season. Dallas struck first with a goal by Mackenzie Vasile (San Antonio, Texas) about five and a half minutes into the second half. However, the Warhawks got an equalizer and then Angelica Navarro netted the game-winning goal with 5:02 remaining in regulation.
Both squads played even in the first stanza, with McMurry attempting one more shot compared to the Crusaders 7-6. The Warhawks overall did place 12 of its 22 shots on frame, which was two less than UD's 14 overall.
Vasile broke a tie match at the 50:26 minute mark as Elisa Duran (Pomona, Calif.) crossed a ball setting up the senior for her third goal of the campaign. The goal also helped Vasile notch a career-high seven points. It was Duran's fourth helper overall.
Vasile was one-of-seven players honored prior to today's contest. Joining the forward were: Tori Fleharty (Richmond, Texas), Elena Naccari (Covington, La.), Sarahi Osorio (Dallas, Texas), Aileen Machado (Dallas, Texas), Lauren Hood (Bedford, Texas), and Samantha Haeick (Las Vegas, Nev.).
Machado led the team with three shots and had one of them on goal. Hood and Haieck each produced a pair of attempts, while Hood had Dallas' third and final shot on frame. Naccari took the start in goal and worked a 45-minute shutout. Fleharty nabbed nine saves in the entire second half.
The Warhawks leveled the score on a goal by Cristen Lumbreras late in the 78th minute. Navarro assisted that goal and later scored the go-ahead result to notch three points. Emily Fisher sent a corner kick that found Navarro in good position on the right side of the box. Navarro boasted a game-high nine shots and had five on goal.
