The University of Dallas women's volleyball team tipped
off the University of Dallas Invitational on Friday night when they
took on Rust College in their first match of the tournament. Along
with playing their first game after Howard Payne University,
Arlington Baptist College, and Rust College already had played, the
team honored lone senior and outside hitter Cortney Anderson (San
Antonio, TX/Antonian H.S.). Anderson, who is playing in her last
home matches this weekend, registered a team high 4 service aces to
go along with 3 kills and 2 digs in the matchup versus Rust.
The match was a relatively easy one for the Crusaders, as they
handily defeated Rust 25-5, 25-8, 25-10. Since the match went so
well, every Crusader got playing time and was given the opportunity
to make her mark on the match. Given this, the statistics were
distributed fairly evenly across the entire roster. Leading the
team in kills were Elizabeth Baska (Tonganoxie, TX/Tonganoxie H.S.)
and Celina Farrell (Corinth, TX/Lake Dallas H.S.). Baska had 11,
while Farrell chipped in 7 and added 2 more block assists to her
single season record. Many of the freshmen on the team performed
well also. Freshman setter Amanda Kitten (Slaton,
TX/Lubbock-Cooper) had 19 sets and 3 aces, while defensive
specialist Emily Glick (Dallas, TX/North Hills Prep) led the team
with 8 digs.
Today in the final day of the tournament, UD takes on Howard Payne
University at 2:00 pm, and then they close out the day against
Arlington Baptist College at 4:00pm.
