On a day with bouts of pouring rain and cold temperatures, the
University of Dallas men's soccer team won their quarterfinal
match against host Keuka College in Penn Yan, NY. In a rematch of
last year's championship game, Dallas knew it was going to be
tough. The fifth seeded Crusaders came out strong against the
fourth seeded Storm and got on the scoreboard first. Junior
midfielder/forward Ryan Meske (Niwot, CO/Niwot H.S.) sent a cross
into the box to fellow junior and midfielder/defender Sam Sheetz
who put the ball in the back of the net for the first of UD's
three scores. Shortly after senior midfielder Aaron Tucker (North
Richland Hills, TX/Birdville H.S.) notched the second goal of the
game off of another Meske cross. Keuka scored off a corner kick to
end the half 2-1 in Dallas' favor. Never looking back, the
Crusaders came out strong in the second half possessing the ball
majority of the period. Senior midfielder Mike McIlhon (San Diego,
CA/St. Augustine H.S.) was fouled in the box and Tucker put away
the penalty kick to bring Dallas up 3-1. With a tough Crusader
defense and all around great play from the team, they brought home
the 3-2 win with their eyes set on once again advancing to the
finals.
Their next game is slated for Saturday at 1:00pm in Penn Yan, NY
against number one seeded Penn State-Abington.
