In their opening game of the Colorado College Thanksgiving Classic, the University of Dallas men's basketball team (1-4) was defeated Friday by host team Colorado College, 53-82.
Sophomore guard Drew Assinesi (Pasadena, Calif./La Salle H.S.), senior guard/forward Noah Pettit (Fairfax, Calif./Sir Francis Drake), junior guard Barrett Brown (Phoenix, Ariz./Mountain Pointe H.S.), sophomore guard Matt Kewell (Coto de Caza, Calif./JSerra Catholic H.S.), and freshman guard Braeton Hightower (Sperry, Oklah./Owasso H.S.) started for Dallas.
In 38 minutes of play, Assinesi had a team-high 15 points, shooting 5-of-14 from the field, and making all five of his free throw attempts.
A pair of freshmen, in forward Zachary Obuch (Schertz, Texas/Byron P. Steele II H.S) and guard Jonathan Goodwin (Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park H.S.) received significant minutes off the bench for coach Jarred Samples' squad. Shooting 3-of-6 from the field, and 2-of-4 from long range, Goodwin totaled 11 points, tying him for the second most team points with Hightower.
To the chagrin of the Crusaders, Colorado College recorded 22 more points in the paint than Dallas, as well as 17 more 2nd chance points. Additionally, UD was doubled up in the rebounding department, 26-52.
Dallas now eyes returning home with a split of their games at the Colorado College Thanksgiving Classic. On Saturday, the Crusaders will battle Finlandia University. The game, which will take place at Colorado College, is set to start at 6:00 p.m.
