MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Dallas men's basketball team (2-13) suffered defeat on Tuesday evening to the Rhodes College Lynx, 76-64.
From the field in the first half, Dallas shot 11-of-29 (37.9 percent), while Rhodes got off to a quick start, netting 14-of-27 (51.9 percent) from the floor. Despite this discrepancy, the Crusaders only trailed by seven points entering halftime.
Both teams relied heavily on the three-ball in their attack. For the game, Dallas put home 3-of-16 from three-point land, while Rhodes made 13-of-23 from distance.
When play resumed, Dallas' offensive output became more efficient, as the Crusaders knocked down 13-of-24 (54.2 percent) second-half attempts from the field.
On the defensive side of the ball, Dallas however struggled in the final period. The Lynx continued assaulting the twine, converting 16-of-22 (72.7 percent) opportunities from the field. Resulting, was a 12 point defeat for the Crusaders.
Dallas' Barrett Brown (Phoenix, Ariz./Mountain Pointe H.S.) led all scorers, amassing 28 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the field, including sinking 2-of-4 from beyond the arc and 8-of-9 free throws attempted. Additionally, the junior guard had five rebounds, all of which were defensive.
The other Crusader to enter double figures in scoring was freshman forward Ross Davidson (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./JSerra Catholic H.S.), who totaled 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field. Davidson missed his lone three-pointer attempted, but managed to make 2-of-3 from the charity stripe.
Dallas will look to get back on track, when they play UC Santa Cruz on Friday, Jan. 21st at the Maher Athletic Center to begin the three-day Independents Round Robin Tournament. Tip off against the Banana Slugs is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
