IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas volleyball team (3-1) continued play in their invitational round-robin Saturday at the Maher Athletic Center. The Lady Crusaders defeated Kean University (N.J.) in three sets, but fell to Alma College (Mich.) in five. 

Match 1: Box Score 

Dallas continued their trend of sweeping sets, dismissing Kean University in three sets (25-18; 25-19; 25-19) to begin Saturday's action. 

Sophomore Emily Caples (Walnut Creek, Calif.) maintained her consistency at the net, and posted a solid .400 hitting percentage for the match. The team combined for a total of 40 kills against the Lady Cougars. 

C.J. Broadbent (Goodyear, Ariz.) set a great match and was responsible for 36 of the team's 38 assists. Broadbent and two of her teammates, Hannah Glick (Dallas, Texas) and Jaime Birzer (Ottawa, Kan.) all had 10 digs each to boost the Lady Crusader defense and secure the win. 

Match 2: Box Score 

The final match of the University of Dallas Invitational brought the Lady Crusaders their first loss of the 2012 season, a five set (26-28; 26-24; 22-25; 25-21; 10-15) ebb-and-flow defeat to Alma College.

Senior outside hitter Theresa Wohldmann (Florissant, Mo.) led Dallas with 13 kills and three blocks, while the team combined for a lackluster .125 hitting percentage. 

Broadbent and Birzer led the team defensively with 26 and 22 digs, respectively. The Lady Crusader defense was strong enough to hold the Lady Scots in two sets, but their hitting errors and service errors cost them the match. Alma College (4-0) went home champions of the Invitational. 

Next opponents: 

On the docket next for Dallas is the Austin College Invitational in Sherman, Texas. Match-play begins Friday, Sept. 7, at 5 p.m. against Rhodes College (Tenn.), while the Lady Crusaders look to fend off Schreiner University at approximately 7 p.m. Dallas plays five matches in totality during the two-day Invitational.
