Wyatt's double-double not enough, as Southwestern edges Men's Basketball 62-61

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas men's basketball team (11-8, 6-4 SCAC) erased a 10-point halftime deficit, but Southwestern University staved off the Crusaders 62-61 Sunday afternoon at the Maher Athletic Center.

Southwestern (8-11, 4-6 SCAC) shot 14-of-28 (50 percent) from the field, including 6-of-12 from 3-point range en route to a 39-29 halftime lead.

Trailing by 16 points with 17:42 remaining in regulation, Dallas managed to tie the game 60-60 when sophomore guard Kym Malone (Richardson, Texas) burried a trifecta with 36 ticks left. Malone's 3-pointer capped a 9-0 Crusader run.

On Southwestern's ensuing possession, Sean Myers netted what proved the game-winning layup with 10 seconds remaining.

Down 62-60, Dallas pushed the ball up court. Sophomore forward Aaron Wyatt (Frisco, Texas) was fouled by Myers in the paint with two seconds to go. He missed the latter of two free throw attempts, and the Pirates exhaled to a one-point victory.

Wyatt amassed a double-double (13 points, 10 rebounds), and senior forward Tanner Bruffey (Lubbock, Texas) added a game-high 15 points in defeat.

Southwestern took bench points 36-12, while Dallas boasted a 39-29 rebounds advantage.
