GEORGETOWN, Texas – The University of Dallas men's soccer team (10-6-1, 6-5-1 SCAC) dropped a 2-0 contest at Southwestern University (6-9-1, 6-5-1) on Friday evening. The setback is the Crusaders' first in seven matches dating back to a 3-0 loss at Colorado College on Sept. 28.
Dallas fell in the season-series 0-2 versus the Pirates.
Two goals in the first half would be enough for the black and gold in this affair, as the Crusaders got outshot 14-4. Southwestern broke a scoreless tie at the 11:21 minute mark on a goal from Andres Carreno-Mende.
The Pirates added to the advantage with their second scoring result of the match having occurred in the 31st minute by Michael Olivares. Southwestern posted double figures in shot attempts with 10 in the opening frame.
Dallas locked down on defense in the second half, limiting the home squad to four attempts, but were unable to mount enough pressure for a rally.
Tallying shots for the navy and white included: senior midfielder Matthew Wise (Portland, Ore.), freshman midfielder Luke Schwarz (Tucson, Ariz.), sophomore defenders Tommy Byrd (Mansfield, Texas) and Austin Strain (Lucas, Texas).
Sophomore goalkeepers P.J. Hasson (Fairfax, Va.) and Tino Gamueda (Lubbock, Texas) each recorded 45 minutes of playing time, and pulled down a pair of saves apiece. Gamueda drew the start and allowed both goals in the setback.
