THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The University of Dallas volleyball team (4-5) suffered a setback against Pomona-Pitzer College (6-2) in a 3-1 decision on Saturday. Set scores were 25-15, 25-19, 21-25, and 25-17 with the Sagehens defeating UD for the first time since opening weekend.

Later in the afternoon, the Crusaders finished the California weekend by claiming a 3-1 victory versus Chapman University (Cal.)

Match 3: Pomona Pitzer defeats Dallas, 3-1:

Sophomore outside hitter Mairin Guilfoyle (Roanoke, Va.) and junior middle blocker Cat Dowgwillo (St. Louis, Mo.) compiled leading scorer efforts with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Junior middle-blocker Jaimie Birzer (Ottawa, Kan.) and senior middle-blocker Emily Caples also followed with eight kills apiece to add to continue an excellent weekend series.

Senior setter C.J. Broadbent (Goodyear, Ariz.) smashed a game-high 41 assists, to break the 40-plateu mark for the fourth time this campaign.

After dropping the first two rounds, the Crusaders took the third set in tightly contested, 25-21 final, but couldn't rally after that.  

Dallas tops Chapman University, 3-1:

In Saturday's nightcap, the Dallas volleyball team produced 25-18, 25-20, 16-25, and 25-19 scores to clinch a 3-1 victory. UD topped the Panthers (1-7) in the opening pair of sets, before needing a fourth frame to complete the match.

For back-to-back games, sophomore outside hitter Jessie Koster (Sherwood, Ore.) mustered a season-best, 23 digs, while Birzer smashed a game-high 13 kills. Dowgwillo followed with eight, while a trio pounded seven each. Creating this unit were Caples, Guilfoyle, and senior Christine Jablonsky (Colorado Springs, Colo.).

Broadbent boasted 36 assists for the second match in two days, also accumulating that total in Friday's opener versus Redlands.

CU's Michele Hammer and Halle Erahl broke double-digits with 12 and 10 kills in the loss.

Next Opponent

Dallas is back home on Sept. 9 against Howard Payne University. Start time is set for 6 p.m., as the Crusaders go for two wins in a row at home.
