MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Dallas men's lacrosse team (2-2) was unable to halt a 12-goal first half by Rhodes College (2-2) who claimed a 22-2 victory on Sunday afternoon. Dallas fell to .500 for the second time on the early campaign and received its first setback on the road.
Six shots for the Lynx would find the back of the net before junior Matthew Cyr (St. Louis, Mo.) ended the streak with an unassisted goal in the final 26 seconds of the opening quarter. The Navy and White's leading scorer would increase his total on the year to eight with the Crusaders other goal in the affair in to begin the third about a minute and a half in.
Cyr tallied five goals, six points, eight shots on goal in 12 attempts, and 13 ground balls over two contests this week. These numbers additionally include the 11-6 victory at Dallas Baptist University on Tuesday.
Behind the attacker's team-highs in the above mentioned categories, were sophomore Jacob Tom (Waukesha, Wis.) with three ground balls, and junior Alex Ziolkowski (Ann Arbor, Mich.) with two ground balls and a pair of shots. As a team UD would compile nine and place five on target.
Junior Ryan Murphy (Yorba Linda, Calif.) took the loss (2-2) with a 60-minute outing in the cage. He stopped 24 shots on goal to equate that many saves against 46 attempts.
For Rhodes, the offense was paced by Jason Lee's four goals. Alessandro Secino boasted a game-high nine shots and was one of a trio of players to earn a hat trick in the triumph. Austin Bridgeforth and Matt Vavrek also contributed three-goals apiece.
Tommy Reingruber dished out five of the Lynxs' 15 assists. RC shot 72 times and picked up 44 ground balls.
Dallas was also forced into 31 turnovers while making the Red and Black commit 14 of its own.
Thomas Matthews (2-2) and Blake Roberts split 30 minutes as the keeper, with Matthews picking up three saves.
