Baseball Splits with Centenary

SHREVEPORT, La. - The University of Dallas baseball team split their conference double-header against Centenary College on Saturday.  They are now 11-10 overall on the year and 2-3 in conference play.

GAME 1 - Dallas 11, Centenary 4

WP: Dylan Krause (4-0)

LP: Tyler Herrera (3-2)

After a quiet two innings, the Crusaders took the early lead in the third inning.  Jake Amoroso got on with a two-out double, and Tyler Darnell drove him in with a single to left to put Dallas up 1-0.

The only real blemish on what was otherwise another solid outing by Dylan Krause came in the fourth inning.  A couple of errors, one of them by Krause himself, and three timely hits put the Gents on top 3-1.  Apart from that one inning, Krause allowed just three hits and one earned run without issuing a single free pass.

The Crusaders responded with big innings in the sixth and the eighth.  They piled on six runs on six hits in the sixth to take a 7-3 lead, then took advantage of walks and errors to score four runs in the eighth.  The Gents brought home a consolation run in the seventh, but couldn't manage any more than that as Graeme Williams and Seth Medley came in to shut them down in the eighth and ninth.

Amoroso was 3-for-5 in the game, with two RBI and a stolen base.  Darnell was 2-for-4 with three RBI and a stolen base, and Austin Birkhoff was 2-for-5 with three RBI in the game.

GAME 2 - Dallas 0, Centenary 18 (7 Innings)

WP: Aidem Reichek (1-0)

LP: Adrian Montenegro (0-3)

The Gents came out swinging in game two, scoring six runs on nine hits across the first three innings to take the early lead.  Dallas managed one baserunner, Austin Birkhoff, in that span thanks to an error; he stole second base, but that would be as far as he got.

Centenary kept piling on the runs from there, adding three in the fourth, five in the fifth, and four in the sixth to make it 18-0.  The Crusaders' bats were completely silenced; they were held hitless through seven innings en route to a comfortable win for Centenary.

The series will be decided tomorrow with a single game at 11:00 a.m.
