Crusaders Build Towards Final Conference Stretch

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas volleyball team continued its fall slate with a split pair of conference and non-conference matchups this past week, hosting Austin College on Thursday before traveling to face Howard Payne University on Saturday.

On Thursday night inside the Maher Athletic Center, the Crusaders battled hard but ultimately fell in straight sets to Austin College (21–25, 13–25, 17–25). Dallas tallied 25 kills as a team, led by Mary Mehan with seven, followed by Ja'Niyah Boudreaux with six and Andrea Zavaleta-Vega with four. Syraia Harvey paced the attack with eight assists, while Breana Timms added 10 digs on the defensive end. Ava Jackson served up two aces to keep the Crusaders competitive early, but Austin's .387 hitting percentage proved too much to overcome.

Dallas returned to action Saturday afternoon on the road, dropping a 3–0 result (16–25, 11–25, 19–25) against Howard Payne University. The Crusaders struggled to find rhythm offensively, but HarveyMehan, and Jackson each contributed three kills a piece. Zavaleta-Vega notched three service aces, while Leslie Torres led the defense with 10 digs.

Despite the tough stretch, the Crusaders showed moments of cohesion and grit, with several underclassmen continuing to make strides in expanded roles. Dallas will look to regroup and build momentum as SCAC play continues next week.
