Simpson named Men's Basketball Graduate Assistant

Eckahelo Simpson named the Graduate assistant for the UDallas Men's Basketball program.
 

Eckahelo Simpson, graduate assistant, enters his first season with the University of Dallas men's basketball program in 2026-27, bringing experience as both a player and youth basketball coach focused on skill development, mentorship, and player growth.

Most recently, he served as an AAU Assistant Coach in Jacksonville, Florida, beginning in February 2026. In that role, he assisted with practice planning, reinforced team philosophies, supported players' mental preparation, and provided individual skill development opportunities before and after team activities.

Prior to joining the Crusaders, he worked as a Basketball Trainer with the Jacksonville Basketball Academy during the summer of 2025. There, he instructed and motivated young athletes to improve their basketball skills, teamwork, and discipline while creating an encouraging environment centered on confidence, effort, and consistency. He also led individualized training sessions designed to maximize player development.

In 2024, he served as both a Pro Lane Basketball Trainer and AAU Assistant Coach in Waukesha, Wisconsin. As a trainer, he developed customized improvement plans for athletes, emphasized proper shooting mechanics and basketball fundamentals, and incorporated competitive small-sided games to build confidence in game situations. As an AAU coach, he helped implement offensive and defensive drills, maintained energy and focus throughout practices, and fostered a positive, competitive atmosphere during tournament play.

Playing Career

A former collegiate student-athlete, Eckahelo Simpson appeared in 22 games during the 2021-22 season, totaling 301 minutes while averaging 3.1 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. He recorded a season-high nine points against Carthage on Jan. 12, 2022, and posted eight points, eight rebounds, and three assists against North Park three days later. Throughout his career, he developed a reputation for bringing energy, toughness, and a team-first mentality both on and off the court.

Personal

Eckahelo Simpson earned a bachelor's degree in Marketing and has continued to build his coaching philosophy around player development, accountability, and confidence-building. His high school accomplishments included earning GSL Second Team honors, winning an LSI Championship, competing as a state contender, and helping lead his team to an undefeated senior season.

Passionate about teaching the game, he is committed to helping student-athletes grow as competitors, teammates, and leaders while creating an environment that emphasizes discipline, effort, and personal development.
