Iyanla Thigpen

Iyanla "Yani" Thigpen joins University of Dallas volleyball program ahead of the 2025-26 season to accompany Alexis Emanuel. Thigpen joins the Crusaders after a standout playing career and coaching experience at both the collegiate and club levels.

Fisk University
Thigpen played her final collegiate season at Fisk University, where she made an immediate impact. She was named GCAC Newcomer of the Year, earned First Team All-Conference and All-Tournament Team honors, and received AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention. She was also recognized on the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll. Following her playing career, Thigpen stayed on at Fisk as a graduate assistant, contributing to player development and program operations.

Club Coaching
Thigpen has also coached at XP Volleyball Club in Mokena, Illinois, and Alliance Volleyball Club in Franklin, Tennessee, helping young athletes develop both their technical skills and competitive mindset.

Personal
Before Fisk, Thigpen started all four years at Francis Marion University. She helped lead FMU to the 2021 Conference Carolinas regular season and tournament championships and was named Most Outstanding Player of the 2021 Conference Carolinas Tournament. Her other accolades included NCAA II Southeast Regional All-Tournament Team, PBC Second-Team All-Conference, and multiple appearances on the Swamp Fox Athletic-Academic Honor Roll.

Thigpen is a proud Chicago native who played her club volleyball at Ultimate Volleyball Club. She is pursuing a master’s degree while continuing to build her coaching career.
