Men's Basketball quarrels with Austin College, can't contain Kangaroos

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas men's basketball team (2-11) was defeated at home on Wednesday evening by the Austin College Kangaroos, 75-61.

The hot shooting Roos sank 50 percent of their shots from three point land and 54.2 percent overall from the field in the second half. Additionally, a 37-26 rebounding advantage helped propel Austin College to the 14 point victory.

Dallas struggled from beyond the arc, shooting 3-of-18 over the course of the game, but kept within striking distance by winning the turnover battle, 12-6. Tenacious defense gave the Crusaders a fighting chance late in the game, as they trimmed a 23 point Kangroo lead to 10 points with 2:16 remaining.

On the night, Dallas held the advantage in turnovers, forcing Austin College to give up the ball 15 times as opposed to the Crusaders' 12 turnovers.

Offensively, freshman forward Ross Davidson (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./JSerra Catholic H.S.) led Dallas in scoring, totaling 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field, while going 6-of-8 from the free throw line. Davidson also led the Crusaders in rebounds (seven), and blocks (one).

Sophomore guard Kyle McElvain (Arlington, Texas/Pantego Christian Academy) was second in scoring for Dallas, with 12 points, and tied for the team lead in assists, dishing out three helpers.

Sophomore point guard Drew Assinesi (Pasadena, Calif./La Salle H.S.) also contributed three assists, while his five steals led the Crusaders.

Freshman guard Landon Spray (Wichita Falls, Texas/Wichita Falls H.S.) hauled in five rebounds and dished out three steals.

The Crusaders will look to get back on the right track, when they take on Colorado College, in their next game. The two will battle at the Maher Athletic Center on Sunday, Jan. 9th, at 3:00 p.m.
