IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas men's soccer team showed grit and attacking firepower on Sunday afternoon, but a late surge from Southwestern Adventist flipped the script in a 4-3 setback at Crusader Field.
The Knights struck first in the 11th minute, but the Crusaders answered with urgency. Ryan Dahl found the net twice in a 10-minute span—first off a Skyler Chan assist, then finishing a setup from Antonio Mestanza—to give UDallas a 2-1 edge at the break. Momentum carried into the second half when Fik Kuteyi buried his first goal of the season in the 64th minute, pushing the lead to 3-1 and firing up the Crusader faithful.
But the Knights clawed back. As the intensity picked up so did the aggresion and whistles leading to a late penalty kick that would spur a sure by the Knights. Dallas battled to the final whistle but couldn't break through again, despite holding an 8-9 shot margin and keeping pace in possession. Goalkeeper Andi San Roman registered five saves in the hard-fought effort.
The Crusaders showed true fight in front of their home crowd, but the "late lapse" proved decisive. UDallas now turns the page to Dallas Christian to prepare for looming conference play, bringing confidence from a three-goal performance and stretches of control against a tough Southwestern Adventist side.
