IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas baseball team responded to a high-scoring setback with back-to-back dramatic victories, taking two of three from Austin College in a wild weekend series at home.
UDallas (2-7) pounded out 33 runs on 33 hits over the final two games, highlighted by clutch late-inning hitting and lockdown relief work. Austin (3-4) erupted for 20 runs in the opener, but the Crusaders answered with resilience, using timely home runs and aggressive baserunning to flip the series in their favor.
In game one, UDallas traded early blows with the 'Roos, highlighted by a first-inning homer from Luke Gill and a three-run third inning fueled by patience at the plate. David Laranjo drove in three, and the Crusaders clawed within 11-9 after a four-run sixth. Austin, however, broke the game open with a nine-run seventh inning to secure a 20-9 decision.
Game two turned into an offensive showcase on both sides, but UDallas delivered the bigger swings. Levi Enriquez launched a three-run homer in the fifth to give the Crusaders breathing room, while Walker Alsobrooks collected three hits and stole three bases. Arthur Ruff earned the win in relief, and Tito Ramos closed the door with four innings to seal a 13-10 victory.
Sunday's finale provided even more late-game drama. After falling behind 7-6 in the eighth, UDallas responded in the ninth. Andrew Israel tied the game with a solo homer before Caleb Mize crushed a three-run walk-off blast to left, capping a four-run frame and securing a 10-7 win. George Clahane picked up the win after five steady innings, and Keller Shamburger recorded the save to complete the comeback series triumph.
