IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas softball team generated several offensive opportunities throughout the weekend but was unable to slow the consistent attack from #22 University of St. Thomas, dropping a three-game SCAC series at Crusader Field.
UDallas recorded 14 hits across the series, highlighted by multiple hits from Abby Lasley and strong performances from Keely Mathis and Kaylee Barajaz. St. Thomas (12-3) combined for 42 hits over the three contests and used big middle innings to secure the weekend sweep.
In game one, the Celts broke through early and steadily added to their lead en route to a 10-0 victory. Samantha Crumrin paced the St. Thomas offense with three hits and two RBI, while Olivia Sanchez delivered a two-run double in the fifth. Dallas collected three hits in the contest, including a double from Erika Gazalski and singles from Abby Lasley and Kaylee Barajaz.
Game two remained scoreless until the third inning before St. Thomas pushed across two runs and later added four in the sixth to pull away for a 6-0 win. Keely Mathis, Ava Aleman, Kailey Sweezey, Erika Gazalski, and MacKenzie Flocke each recorded a hit for Dallas, accounting for the Crusaders' five-hit effort in the game.
In the series finale, the Crusaders found the scoreboard in the third inning when Mathis doubled to left field to drive in Lasley. Lasley finished with two hits in the contest, while Barajaz, Emma Sherman, and Madie Tillman also recorded hits. St. Thomas, however, responded with multi-run frames in the second, third, and fourth before adding three insurance runs in the seventh to secure the 9-1 decision.
