SHREVEPORT, Louisiana – The University of Dallas softball team generated consistent contact at the plate but was unable to overcome early deficits and big innings from Centenary College, falling in a three-game series at the Centenary SB Complex.
UDallas (3-15) recorded 13 hits and two runs across the three contests, highlighted by multiple hits from Keely Mathis and Abby Lasley. Centenary (12-11) capitalized on timely extra-base hits and defensive miscues to control momentum throughout the series.
In game one, the Crusaders broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning when Erika Gazalski drew a bases-loaded walk to score Kaylee Barajaz. Centenary responded with a solo home run from Kaitlynn Alello in the bottom of the frame before Morgan Dawson delivered a two-RBI double in the fifth to secure a 4-1 victory. Dallas tallied six hits in the contest, including knocks from Mathis, Kailey Sweezey, Aliyah Valdez, MacKenzie Flocke, Gazalski, and Bre Barnes.
Game two saw Centenary jump ahead early with a run in the first and a five-run second inning, aided by several defensive miscues. The Ladies added two more runs in the third to extend the lead to 8-0. Keely Mathis and MacKenzie Flocke recorded the Crusaders' two hits in the contest, while Ava Trevino delivered 2.0 scoreless innings in relief.
In the series finale, Centenary struck for three runs in the opening inning before adding two more in the third. Dallas broke through in the sixth when Emma Sherman drove in Abby Lasley with an RBI single. Lasley, Valdez, Sherman, Mathis, and Flocke each collected hits for the Crusaders, but Centenary added an insurance run in the sixth to secure the 6-1 decision.
