GEORGETOWN, Texas – The University of Dallas women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Southwestern University Friday night at Southwestern Varsity Fields.
Southwestern opened the scoring in the 27th minute when Matti Penders found the back of the net, giving the Pirates a 1-0 advantage. Iris McCain added another goal with less than five minutes remaining in the first half, sending Southwestern into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
The Pirates extended their advantage early in the second half as Mia Morales scored in the 51st minute to make it a 3-0 match.
UDallas responded less than seven minutes later when Annalise Martinez found the back of the net in the 57th minute. The goal marked Martinez's second of the season and cut the Southwestern lead to 3-1.
The Crusaders were held to four shots on the night, with three reaching the target. Southwestern finished with 22 shots, including eight on goal.
Ella Charles recorded five saves in goal for UDallas, helping keep the Crusaders within striking distance throughout the match.
Southwestern also held advantages in corner kicks, 5-0, and finished the night with two saves compared to two for UDallas.
With the result, UDallas falls to 0-3-0 on the season.
