THE BASICS
The University of Dallas Men's Soccer Team (0-1) hosts Whitman College (0-0) on Thursday, September 3 at 5 p.m. The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) will also be on its first stop of the third annual SCAC8-in-8 tour.
It is the second match for Dallas in three days and will conclude a pair of tilts at Crusader Field. UD fell 2-1 in Tuesday's season-opener.
LEADING THE STATS
Senior Colton Allen (Roanoke, Texas) scored the Crusaders' first goal of the new campaign. The forward is coming off a career season, where he paced the squad with eight goals and 17 points. His effort landed him on the NSCAA All-West Region Second Team and All-Conference First Team.
Junior Barton Holdridge (Fort Worth, Texas) is ahead on the team with five shot attempts and two shots on goal. Sophomore A.J. Zaugg (Dallas, Texas) added a pair of shots and freshman Eric Haigh (Frisco, Texas) landed his lone attempt on goal.
Defensively, junior Tino Gamueda (Lubbock, Texas) has worked 90 minutes in goal for UD, and picked up four saves against six shots faced. Last season, the keeper logged 913:46 minutes in 20 games for the Navy and White. He garnered 46 saves overall and averaged 1.48 goals allowed.
SCOUTING WHITMAN COLLEGE
The Missionaries are coming off a 10-9 year, and went 6-7 in the Northwest Conference. Whitman was successful away from the home confines, going 6-3 when traveling. Thursday's match marks the season-opener for WC, and a three-match stint through Texas. The Missionaries also play at University of Texas at Tyler and University of Texas at Dallas on the stretch.
Statistically, the Missionaries outscored their opponents by one (30-29), and poured 299 shot attempts. The shots on goal percentage was .411 and Whitman finished with 68 corner kicks.
Daniel Kim returns and led the team last season in goals and points with five and 13, respectively. Park Harmon follows with four scores and Nathanael Fleming chipped in three.
HISTORY
This is the first time the programs will meet on the pitch.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Dallas embarks on its first road trip of the fall, with three contests total. The first is on Sunday, Sept. 6 at Concordia University. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. and will be played at St. Stephens Episcopal School.
After that, the Crusaders enjoy five days off and open (SCAC) action on Sept. 11 at Colorado College. The next day on Sept. 12, UD remains at Colorado College for a neutral site match against Wartburg College.
