MILLINGTON, Tenn. – The University of Dallas baseball team generated consistent offense throughout the weekend but was unable to hold off late rallies and big innings from Asbury University, dropping a three-game series at USA Stadium.
UDallas (0-3) recorded 34 hits and 18 runs across the set, highlighted by three home runs from Luke Gill and eight total hits from Dylan Goddard. Asbury (3-0) used timely extra-base hits and 16 walks over the weekend to swing momentum, including a decisive ninth-inning rally in game two and a nine-run fourth inning in the finale.
In game one, the Crusaders jumped out to a 4-0 lead behind RBI efforts from Caleb Mize, Cody Jenkins and Gill. Jenkins went 2-for-4 with three RBI, including a pair of doubles. However, Asbury answered with five runs in the sixth to secure an 8-5 win.
Game two saw UDallas put together its strongest offensive showing of the series. Gill launched two home runs and drove in four, while Walker Alsobrooks and Goddard each collected multiple hits as the Crusaders built an 8-5 advantage through six innings. George Clahane delivered 4.0 scoreless innings in relief, but a four-run ninth lifted Asbury to a 9-8 victory.
In Sunday's finale, UDallas responded to a three-run first with a four-run second, highlighted by Nate Curtis' two-run homer. Goddard tallied three hits in the contest, and the Crusaders finished with 11 hits overall. Asbury, however, broke the game open with nine runs in the fourth inning en route to a 16-5 decision.
